About the Company

SoftIron designs and manufactures hardware and software solutions for scale-out data centres. Our product design, hardware, software and realisation process is transparent for audit, and we manufacture hardware in-country, contributing to the sovereign capability and resilience.

Project Objective

The project aims to identify, research, and develop the custom security controls needed in a sovereign, detached cloud builder for the Australian Defence Force. The successful intern will review the security controls required for operation in a high-security environment, generate gaps in the current feature-set in HyperCloud software, and give that information back to the software engineering group for addition to the development backlog. Additionally, the intern will generate pre-hardened templates for usage in a container environment and a VM.

Intern Skills

Essential: Experience in the Linux and free software world, intermediate experience in UNIX scripting languages, and basic knowledge in the usage of cloud technologies (such as AWS and Azure).

Desirable: Experience with VMWare, Python programming language, software delivery using Go, C, C++, Java or similar, open-source distributed storage such as Ceph, Gluster, Minio, or similar.
