Defence Innovation Network at PACIFIC 2019

PACIFIC 2019, the biennial Pacific International Maritime Exposition, was held from Tuesday 8 October to Thursday 10 October 2019 at the International Convention Centre in Sydney. The Defence Innovation Network hosted a number of events as part of this conference, such as the PACIFIC networking event, Innovation Pitchfest, and the DIN Technology Showcase.

PACIFIC 2019 Networking Event

The Defence Innovation Network (DIN), together with the Defence Science Institute (DSI), the Defence Innovation Partnership (DIP), and Defence Science Centre (DSC), hosted a networking event on Monday 7 October 2019 at The Rawson, Sydney. The event was well attended, with over 100 guests from academia, government, and industry joining us for an evening of networking before the commencement of PACIFIC 2019.

Defence Innovation Network Exhibit with Defence NSW

The Defence Innovation Network secured a prime location at the Defence NSW pavilion, and was welcomed by the Hon Stuart Ayres, NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, and the Hon Linda Reynolds, federal Minister for Defence.

NSW Defence Innovation Network’s Technology Showcase

The NSW Defence Innovation Network’s Technology Showcase was held on Wednesday 9 October 2019, as part of the PACIFIC 2019  maritime exposition. In the morning, guests heard from a number of keynote speakers, including Chief Defence Scientist, Professor Tanya Monro, as well as Deputy NSW Chief Scientist and Engineer Dr Chris Armstrong and Chief of Science Partnership and Engagement at DST Group Dr Ian Dagley. The afternoon session introduced exciting technology case studies, sponsored by the DIN, presented by industry and academics from NSW universities covering a number of interesting topics such as maritime surveillance, counter-drone technologies, tactical exoskeletons, and autonomous robots, just to name a few. Guests also learnt about research and development opportunities offered by Safran Electronics and Defense, ONRG, and DST Group. Click here to view the full program.

PACIFIC 2019 Innovation Pitchfest

The Innovation Pitchfest, organised by Industry Defence Security Australia Limited (IDSAL) in partnership with the Defence Science Institute (DSI), the Defence Innovation Partnership (DIP), Defence Science Centre (DSC) and Defence Innovation Network (DIN), was held at PACIFIC 2019 on 8 and 9 October 2019.
