Project objective:

This collaborative project aims to decentralise and combine a system of miniaturised situational awareness radars equipped airborne platforms to extend the overall reach, reliability and imaging performance of the system.

Problem:

In hostile conditions, forward-deployed troops cannot rely on satellites, aircraft or helicopters to provide long-range early warning for incoming threats. A small unmanned aerial system (UAS) equipped with active electronically-scanned phased array RADAR could provide a combat team with beyond-line-of-sight detection of hostile forces as well as a local directional high-bandwidth communications link.

Outcome:

The project will create a massive increase in ground-coverage compared to visual methods for a small stealthy UAS. The technology has potential for impact beyond Defence.
