About the Scholarship: This exciting PhD scholarship opportunity is part of a cutting-edge research project that aims to tackle the growing challenge of AI-generated disinformation and malicious content. With the rise of sophisticated AI models capable of generating high-quality but misleading content, this project seeks to develop innovative AI-driven techniques to detect and trace false narratives and AI-manipulated news across various media platforms.

Project Overview: The scholarship is part of a broader research initiative designed to address two major challenges in AI content generation:

  1. Detection of AI-Generated Content: Recent advances in AI, particularly large language models, have made it increasingly difficult to differentiate between human-produced and machine-generated content. This project aims to develop tools to accurately identify AI-created materials.
  2. Attribution and Accountability: AI-generated content can obscure the origins of disinformation, making it hard to trace and hold sources accountable. The project will explore techniques such as watermarking LLM outputs to track the source of such content.

Anticipated Outcomes: The successful PhD candidate will contribute to the following key outcomes:

  • Develop systems to identify and distinguish AI-created text from genuine human content within social media campaigns.
  • Employ techniques like watermarking to trace the origin of AI-generated content.
  • Uncover hidden agendas within text, such as the spread of propaganda, rumours, or other malicious campaigns.
  • Differentiate between authentic audience engagement and coordinated disinformation efforts by bots or troll farms.

This scholarship is a great opportunity for motivated students passionate about AI, natural language processing, and the growing field of disinformation detection. The candidate will work with advanced AI models, contribute to state-of-the-art research, and help counter malicious uses of AI technologies.
