The Defence Innovation Network (DIN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alison Fogarty as its new Associate Director, bringing more than two decades of experience spanning defence science, military stakeholder engagement, industry collaboration and research leadership.

Alison joins DIN with an extensive background in Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG), where she has developed and led research programs that have delivered practical capability outcomes for the Australian Defence Force. Most recently, she served as a Science Projects Director in the Land and Integrated Forces Program, following leadership roles as Discipline Leader for Physical Performance.

A graduate of the University of Wollongong, Alison holds a Bachelor of Exercise Science
(Honours) and a Master of Science (Honours). Her early research into the physiological impacts of firefighting protective clothing sparked a longstanding interest in applied physiology, leading to research appointments at both the University of Wollongong and Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.

Since joining DSTG in 2006, Alison has worked closely with Defence stakeholders to improve human performance, safety and capability outcomes across a broad range of operational environments. Her expertise includes thermal physiology, ergonomics, human factors, physical performance and the evaluation of Defence clothing and equipment.

A defining feature of Alison’s career has been her ability to bridge the gap between researchers and Defence end users. Between 2017 and 2021, she was embedded within Army as a Science and Technology Advisor, coordinating innovation and research activities, supporting operational requirements and fostering collaboration between Defence, academia, industry and broader innovation networks.
