About the Summit

The Virtual National Defence Industry Skilling and Workforce Summit provides an opportunity for Defence to enhance collaboration with Australia’s defence industry sector to engage, attract, train and retain a highly skilled and specialised workforce to meet future defence capability needs.

The 2021 Summit will focus on young people in defence industry, considering the complex challenges and opportunities facing the next generation workforce and exploring how we can enhance young peoples’ participation in the sector. The Summit will feature representation by young people as well as participants from industry, state/territory and federal governments and the education sector.

Outcomes

The Summit will provide a range of engaging and interactive sessions covering a variety of issues including:

  • opening address from the Minister for Defence Industry
  • keynote addresses from senior Defence and Industry representatives
  • meeting the long-term workforce challenge
  • current initiatives encouraging young people to pursue careers in defence industry
  • case studies on how adjacent industries and allies have attracted and retained a youth workforce
