About the Company
RedTail Technology (RTT) is a small defence business (startup) specialising in artificial
intelligence, machine learning, directed energy laser technology, laser safety, microwave and radio sources and applications, and hypersonics. RTT has a proven record of delivering operationally relevant solutions to Defence’s most challenging peculiar problems. RTT’s current focus is the development of the Katoomba counter-uncrewed aerial system (C-UAS) directed energy system, an AI-infused, lightweight and versatile protection system for critical infrastructure and Defence applications against hostile or unauthorised UAS platforms.
Project Objective
Precise optical targeting system securing target lock in challenging environments with unpredictable mechanical shock through AI-enabled optical and high-frequency inertial sensor fusion.
Project Tasks
- A Tracking Model that fuses optical and inertial data within the context of a unit that can supply accurate target pointing data that, when acted upon, will remain on target during unexpected mechanical shock events.
- A report on the research outcomes detailing the various approaches attempted, their outcomes and challenges. The developed approach should be covered in detail, along with existing issues and ideas for potential future improvements.
Intern Skills
The expertise required from the intern would be a computer science or software engineering background with experience in visual processing, experience working with Kalman filters and the ability to optimise processing performance for low-power edge devices is preferred.
RTT prioritises individuals with creative and out-of-the-box thinking, interdisciplinary thinking, and those who pursue their own technical projects. A willingness to learn new skills and an interest in national defence are key requirements.
Application
