The Defence Innovation Network (DIN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Clair Stark as its new Associate Director.

Dr Stark brings a unique blend of operational Defence experience and scientific expertise to the role. An oceanographer with the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG), she began her career in the Royal Australian Air Force as an Electronic Warfare operator, reporter, and analyst. After leaving the RAAF, Dr Stark completed a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Physics) and a PhD in Physical Oceanography at James Cook University.

Her academic journey continued at UNSW Canberra, where she held positions as a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer, researching tropical cyclones and their impacts on the ocean. She also lectured in oceanography and mathematics to Australian Defence Force cadets. Since joining DSTG, Dr Stark has contributed to the Maritime Autonomy group and remains an active member of the oceanography community through her involvement in the Bluelink project.

Dr Stark steps into the role following Dr Sophie Calabretto, who has made significant contributions to DIN during her tenure. The DIN team sincerely thanks Sophie for her leadership, energy, and dedication and wishes her every success in her future endeavours.

We are excited to welcome Dr Stark to the team and look forward to her leadership in driving innovation, research collaboration, and sovereign capability across the Defence ecosystem.
