About the Company

Cognitive Advantage is an Australian veteran-owned small business with offices in the ACT, NSW, and QLD. Cognitive Advantage designs, manufactures, and supports Edge Spark® products, and develops custom solutions based on Edge Spark® to suit specific mission needs. Edge Spark® is the industry-leading tactical connectivity solution for defence, public safety, and disaster relief. It combines LEO satellite broadband, 5G mobile broadband, Wi-Fi, and mesh radio—all enabled by off-grid solar power—and all integrated with enterprise-grade security and remote management capability. Edge Spark® is used operationally by the Australian Defence Force and the NSW Government.

Project Objective

The aim of this project is to develop a resilient remote monitoring system for our network operations centre and integrate network data with tactical situational awareness software (TAK).

Project Tasks

The intern will be joining an ongoing effort by an existing team, with five lines of effort:

  • Configuring remote devices to transmit real-time telemetry.
  • Receiving, aggregating, and storing telemetry in a distributed time-series database.
  • Querying the database for key metrics.
  • Visualising those metrics to support the network operations centre.
  • Integrating real-time network status data into a third-party situational awareness application.

We are flexible as to which areas the intern works on most. We anticipate that the intern will have exposure to all five areas, but will focus on one or two areas.

Intern Skills

The ideal intern will have strong problem-solving abilities and be broadly familiar with computer systems. We are especially interested in new perspectives and approaches from those in other fields. This is a good opportunity for someone without a background in telecommunications or networking who is interested in applying their research skills to a new domain.

The ideal candidate will be capable of both working independently and collaborating in a team. They will also be enthusiastic to learn new skills and take in new information.

Application

Students should fill out an online application form and submit their supporting documents (listed below)  by 14 September 2025.
